Stop Drinking

Even if you are a regular person who is very responsible about alcohol consumption, your sleep may be affected in the same way as an alcoholic’s. Alcohol, like many drugs, relaxes many of your body’s muscles, which includes those that control your airway. When your airway is relaxed, it becomes constricted and greatly reduces your airflow. This problem becomes greater with every drink.

For those who are responsible drinkers, the solution is simple:

Refrain from drinking a few hours before bed time.

Skip that late night glass of wine or digestif. Wine is a great accompaniment for many meals, perhaps every meal, but please keep in mind that you should eat dinner early if you would like to drink some.

If you stop drinking; or at least cut down, you will also most likely be accomplishing another goal to prevent snoring: weight loss. Alcohol contains large amounts of empty calories, and goes a long way towards keeping on the pounds. Decreasing your consumption or cutting it out altogether will definitely help you to shed some weight.

If you have an alcohol problem, you should realize that your addiction is greatly affecting your sleep, which is just another reason to add to the enormous pile of reasons that you already have for quitting. Please read some of the articles below for information on alcohol addictions.
